It’s always fun visiting a trade show three times: not enough times for it to bore you, but still enough times to feel familiar with it, and to watch how it evolves over the years. ExpoMin is one of the best mining trade shows in Latin America, and I have visited all last three editions of it (every other year in Santiago). It’s good to feel the sector more confident under the new government, and it’s good to see some British presence, even though at country level others clearly took over, like South Africa, the US and Germany. And if you are into gender issues in mining, check out this Bloomberg article – I have said it many a time that if in Latin America we don’t change our attitude to women, we cannot expect to develop fully as a region. This is what I mean about Chile’s contradictions, it can seem ever so developed and yet hide shocking amounts of machismo almost everywhere.
